Earlier this year several fishing communities created underwater gardens for the fish and they seem to be working.
Following this, M’bwana Sub Fisheries Association in conjunction with the M’bwana Area Development Committee in Nkhata Bay have created an underwater fish garden in their area.
They put together old tree stumps and other vegetation before taking it out into the lake. These fish gardens mean that fishermen will not be able to fish in the area as their nets will get caught on the logs. This will allow the fish to breed and grow.
