Our Fish Conservation project empowers each Beach Village Committee (BVC) to educate their community about fishing sustainably which includes making sure that they are using the correct fishing nets.
If fishermen are caught with illegal fishing nets, they can be confiscated. Recently Kasankha BVC has confiscated several illegal nets in their area. These illegal fishing nets include mosquito nets which catch the baby fish and therefore are banned.
And on World Malaria Day, it really is important that mosquito nets are not used for fishing but for their intended purpose, protecting people against getting malaria!
