It’s World Soil Day and last year we shared the plan to introduce biochar to farmers in Malawi. During the past year we have been working closely with a group of farmers to learn the most efficient way of making and charging biochar and seeing the comparison between different crops.
As well as with farmers, Maston has been talking to secondary school students about the process and benefits, and during a recent fruit tree planting day, he even demonstrated this to the Traditional Authority and other dignitaries.
Biochar might not look the most exciting thing but it can help farmers use less water, remove the need for bought fertliser and maximise their yields. As we develop this project further we’ll share updates.
