Benjamin was 18 when he became one of the tree farmer beneficiaries. Brought up by his grandmother, he lived with her and his two sisters as their parents had died. He was fortunate to finish secondary school which is when he heard about the opportunity to plant trees.
He planted 530 tree seedlings and on a recent visit to see how they are growing he said, “These trees are my future. I look after them and coppice branches which I use for firewood and for my brick making business.”
Benjamin makes bricks which have to be fired which uses huge amounts of wood but by using these branches he is avoiding having to chop down other trees. Living alone with his two dogs, Bruce and Jack, Benjamin is excited for his future and so are we!
