ETWA kindly donated funding to enable us to install solar lighting into Standard Eight Classrooms in Kachere, Chiomba and Matete Primary Schools, Nkhata Bay District, Malawi. Students in the six primary schools who are coming up to their final Primary School examination attend revision classes in the evenings to boost their chances of achieving the best possible grades. However, only one of the primary schools we support (Mwaya Primary School) is connected to mains electricity, leaving the students in the other schools without any lighting so seeing what is on the blackboard is almost impossible without central lighting.
We have installed solar lighting into the Standard 8 classroom at each school to make studying easier for the students and improve the learning environment for the students. The Solar AGM batteries have a life cycle of four years but the panels themselves should have a performance life of 25 years. Another NGO has installed solar at Kazando and Mazembe Primary Schools meaning all Standard 8 students at all six of the primary schools we support can now revise in better lit classrooms.
