Several months ago Matilda and two education specialists, Mr Chirwa and Mrs Kavivira, carried out a workshop for teachers to learn how to support pupils with Special Education Needs.
Since the training, the teachers have been putting what they learnt into action and last week Matilda started following up at the schools.
Sitting in on different classes, Matilda said, “We wanted to see if all the teachers were putting into practice the skills they had gained from the training – and they were. The teachers we have monitored have a positive attitude and it was good to see that other students without any education needs were supporting those that did.”
Matilda continued to say that the teachers’ instructions were clear, there was lots of positive reinforcement and the classes were well disciplined.
We hope to run additional training to develop upon the skills already learnt, and for any teachers unable to make the first workshop.
