Batiya Nyirenda is 75 and a member of the Chibisa Conservation Committee. He protects the forests where he lives and educates others on the importance of trees.
This year he has also been involved with tree planting along with another committee member, Ezekiel. Together they have planted 4,000 trees.
Batiya said, “I wish to plant trees as one way to promote ground cover that will reduce erosion and flooding.”
For every tree our tree farmers plant, we protect three indigenous trees in forests in Malawi.
