Plastic waste in Africa is an enormous problem. Our Plastic Clean Up project supports our local community between Kande and Kachere to clean up their area by collecting litter. Nkhata Bay District has banned the use of single-use plastic bags which will make a huge difference in keeping rural areas clean.
We started fish conservation in Africa in 2011 in Nkhata Bay District of Malawi. Called Fish for Tomorrow, we built on our experience of community led forest conservation in Malawi. We developed a simple approach which we trialled along a 40 km area of lakeshore in the District. It was so successful that communities wanted this approach and we are now working in three Districts and protect 300 km of lakeshore.
We introduced the fuel-efficient cookstove in Africa to communities in Malawi to provide a safer and more sustainable alternative to the three-stone fire.
