Patuma is a 33-year-old business woman from Malawi. She sells fish to earn her living so that she can provide for her four children.
A number of years ago, Patuma would sell baby fish caught in mosquito nets. However, since the Fish for Tomorrow project banned the use of illegal fishing nets, Patuma now sells the right size fish. This enables her to make more money which makes her happy.
Passionate that fish should remain in the lake for future generations, Patuma is on one of Chia Lagoon’s fish conservation committees. She said, “I am now teaching more people about the importance of conserving fish. I do not want my children to suffer.”
