Did you fly away somewhere idyllic this summer? Or maybe chose to do a staycation and drove somewhere beautiful instead? Wherever you were, you probably enjoyed unusually hot weather.
These weather changes are likely to continue due to climate change but you could play your part and offset the journeys you made. This not only makes your holiday travel carbon neutral but positively impacts communities in Malawi too. How?
Our fuel-efficient cookstoves known locally as a Changu Changu Moto save over four millions bundles of wood each year. With more than 300,000 householders benefiting to date, the cookstoves are made from locally sourced materials and use only one bundle of wood per week compared to three bundles which are needed on a traditional three-stone fire. As well, the firewood now being collected is twigs and small branches which have been coppiced instead of cutting trees down.
The Changu Changu Moto also produces less smoke and they are safer too so burn rates, especially among children, have reduced considerably. Registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), operated and administered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, we offer premium carbon offsets.
