Anyone for lunch? Nsima is the staple food in Malawi made from maize or cassava flour mixed with water. A typical lunch would consist of nsima with vegetables and a protein such as beans, eggs, fish or meat depending on what the family can afford.
However, cooking nsima takes time on a traditional three stone fire but women in Nkhata Bay District love cooking it on their fuel-efficient cookstoves as it cooks much quicker.
They have the added bonus of cooking the relish on the second burner too so the meal is pretty much ready at the same time.
