We are sharing a plea from Kachere Health Centre who are in need of urgent repairs and building works.
Malawian women in rural areas have to make the difficult journey to their nearest health centre before they give birth, many while they are in labour.
Others journey to a health centre weeks in advance and camp at the facility until they start labour to make sure they avoid the fine – something the government brought in 2007 to reduce the mortality rate.
However, imagine turning up to your nearest clinic to find that most of the toilets have fallen down or are beyond repair and there are limited spaces to wash yourself. Hygiene is important at the best of times but even more so once you have had a baby.
Not only this but the incinerator and disposal facility are in need of repairs to ensure that medical waste is not accessible to those visiting the clinic.
