Driving along the bumpy tracks between our tree farmers, the team were delighted to see how areas that have been heavily deforested are slowly regrowing. Deforestation in Malawi is a massive problem and huge areas of beautiful forest have been cut down to clear areas for farming and to provide timber for building houses and for firewood.
Our tree planting project addresses this by supporting farmers to grow trees for sustainable timber and firewood. By providing a solution to the problem, we are seeing areas like this being left to naturally regenerate – and we cannot wait to see what it is like as the years go on. We also run a forest conservation project protecting 340 sq.km of existing forest.
