Since April, we have worked closely with District Councils to repairs hundreds of boreholes and continue to fix more.
When the pandemic first hit, a number of loyal funders asked if there was anything they could fund that would help. After finding out that over 800 boreholes in Nkhata Bay and Nkhotakota Districts were broken, we knew there was.
The first round of funding enabled 240 to be repaired and we are now repairing a further 100 boreholes, 80 of which are now working.
One story that shocked us was from Mtowole village. For 10 years their borehole has been broken. Emily Phiri lives in this village and said, “For 10 years our village has had to walk three kilometres to the nearest working borehole. We now have access to safe drinking water and appreciate Ripple Africa for helping us.”
We won’t be stopping there. We are hoping to secure funds to repair another 100. These simple repairs really do make a world of difference to people in a very short space of time.
