23-year-old Ephraim Phiri is one of our sweet potato beneficiaries. When he heard about the project he was really keen to be involved for two reasons.
Ephraim lives with his mother who unfortunately couldn’t afford secondary school fees so he not only wanted to provide food for his family but saw this as an opportunity to create a business. He plans to sell some of the harvest so he can pay his school fees and finish his education.
The project slogan is Plant, Share, Eat with an emphasis on sharing vines so although he will be able to multiply vines to grow more sweet potato next season, Ephraim will also share some of the additional vines with his friends.
