A progress story by Nikki Luxford (Project Co-ordinator & Corporate Partnerships Manager)
In May 2015 I met Mphatso whilst volunteering at Ripple Africa. Born with cerebral palsy she received weekly therapy at home through our Disabilities and Rehabilitation project.
Mphatso lived with her grandparents who were committed to helping her achieve milestones from sitting up unaided, crawling and learning to walk. But this didn’t take place in a few months but over a number of years.
After volunteering, I was offered my dream job with Ripple Africa. It brought me such happiness then when I visited one of our pre-schools in 2019 to find that years after first meeting her, Mphatso was not only attending but had learnt to walk and was able to feed herself.
Without long-term support through this project Mphatso would have struggled to achieve so many milestones but this is one of the many reasons why I love being a part of Ripple Africa.
We commit to communities for the long-term to ensure sustainable futures can really be achieved. Whether this is through our Environment projects or our Education and Healthcare projects, everything we do provides a brighter future in their own unique way.
By donating to our match funding campaign you really can have double the impact. Thank you or Tawonga Ukongwa as we say in Malawi!
