We have 47,000 fuel-efficient cookstoves built and in use in northern Malawi but why do women love them?
Before our fuel-efficient cookstoves are introduced to an area we host a cooking competition with the community. Five women cook on a traditional three-stone fire and five cook on the fuel-efficient cookstove. The women start with the same amount of wood and the same ingredients.
Experiencing the results first-hand demonstrates to the women the many benefits of having the locally known Changu Changu Moto cookstove.
Women not only save LOTS of time cooking but time collecting firewood as they only need to collect one bundle of wood a week compared to three bundles needed for the three stone fire.
